Benediktinermarkt in Klagenfurt

Markets

What should never be left out on every classic city trip?
Shopping, of course.

In the historical old town of Klagenfurt, which is entirely a pedestrian zone, you are in just the right place. Here you can stroll leisurely between handicraft shops, fashion shops, luxury boutiques, perfumeries, bookshops and excellent department stores. You will find plenty of souvenirs, specialities for the eyes and the tastebuds, old and new, interesting and innovative, and you will also discover two of the city’s important landmarks on the way: the Lindwurm on Neuer Platz square and the Wörtherseemandl on Dr.-Arthur-Lemisch-Platz square. Taking a break to replenish your energy at one of the many restaurants or cafés will round off your stroll, on which you are sure to have found a few bargains. Directly in the city centre you will also find the City Arkaden shopping centre, and a little further towards the outskirts of town, the Südpark, another slightly smaller shopping centre. We can highly recommend the weekly market, the Klagenfurt Benediktinermarkt, to lovers of culinary delights. It is here that on Thursdays and Saturdays, regional farmers from Carinthia, Friuli and Slovenia sell their products – all of them fresh, many from organic cultivation, and all incomparably delicious.
